What serious adverse effects can occur with doxycycline therapy, such as liver damage, gastrointestinal disturbances, or photosensitivity and how can these be prevented or treated?
1. Doxycycline can cause photosensitivity; using sunscreen and wearing protective clothing can help prevent this effect.
2. It may lead to gastrointestinal issues like nausea and diarrhea. Eating probiotics and taking medication with food can help mitigate these effects.
3. Liver toxicity is rare but possible with doxycycline. Monitoring liver function and avoiding alcohol can prevent this.
