What are the recommended guidelines for using terbutaline in emergency situations, such as severe asthma attacks or preterm labor?
Terbutaline is administered subcutaneously at 0.25 mg for acute asthma exacerbations, repeated every 15-30 mins if needed, not exceeding 0.5 mg within 4 hrs.
For preterm labor, terbutaline is given by IV initially, followed by a maintenance dose. Monitor heart rate and contractions, and consult a specialist for prolonged use.
