Persons with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency should avoid nitrofurantoin as it can cause hemolysis.
Pregnant women, particularly in their late-term, should not use nitrofurantoin, as it poses a risk of hemolytic anemia in the newborn.
