How does Metformin interact with other antidiabetic medications? Are there any synergistic effects or risks when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas?
Metformin can enhance the efficacy of sulfonylureas and insulin by improving insulin sensitivity, but the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when combined.
When used with insulin or sulfonylureas, metformin reduces insulin resistance which allows these drugs to be more effective but increases the risk of low blood sugar.
