How does amoxicillin interact with antacids and are there specific recommendations for spacing their administration to avoid reduced absorption?
Amoxicillin absorption may be reduced by antacids because they decrease stomach acidity. It’s recommended to take amoxicillin at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids.
Antacids can impair amoxicillin absorption by increasing gastric pH. Ideally, administer amoxicillin 1-2 hours before or after taking an antacid to avoid interaction.
