Is Metoprolol safe for use in patients with pheochromocytoma, and does it require co-administration with alpha-blockers to avoid hypertensive crises?
Metoprolol is unsafe as a sole therapy in pheochromocytoma due to risk of unopposed alpha-receptor stimulation. Alpha-blockers must be used first to prevent hypertensive crises.
