Can Metformin be safely used in patients with renal impairment? What dosing adjustments or precautions should be followed to minimize risks of complications?
Metformin is used with caution in renal impairment. It is contraindicated if eGFR is <30 mL/min. Dose adjustments are required at eGFR <45 mL/min to reduce lactic acidosis risk. Monitor kidney function regularly.
