What are the contraindications for using cefixime and in what clinical situations should it be avoided, such as in patients with a known allergy to cephalosporins or certain other conditions?
1. Avoid cefixime in patients allergic to cephalosporins or penicillins due to potential cross-reactivity.
2. Cefixime should not be used in those with severe renal dysfunction without dose adjustment.
3. Contraindicated in patients with a history of cephalosporin-associated colitis. Use alternatives.
